Penalty Points scheme for Drivers

In 2025 the Council introduced a Penalty Point Scheme for Hackney Carriage and Private Hire Vehicle licence holders. The primary objective of the Scheme is to improve the levels of compliance and to help improve the standards, safety and protection of the travelling public.

Points can be issued following investigation of a range of issues and non-compliances, for more information see the pages below:

Points will remain active from the date of issue, for a period of 3 years for drivers and 5 years for operators. If a licence holder accumulates 12 or more penalty points, they will be referred to the Regulatory sub-committee to determine if action is needed to protect public safety.
