Car Park Essential Maintenance Begins Next Week
Improvement works will begin on Monday, 27 April at the Tiverton Multi Storey Car Park in Phoenix Lane.
The scheme will be delivered by contractors Concrete Repairs Limited and follows the completion of the Premier Inn construction in 2019, which now adjoins the car park. The main car park was constructed in the 1990s.
Works will include the installation of railings as part of improved safety features, resurfacing, enhanced lighting, speed bumps and essential maintenance work to protect the concrete structure. Upgrading will be taking place on all floors users and during this time a traffic flow management system will be in place but users of the 565 capacity car park will still be able to access a number of the parking levels throughout the programme.
Cllr Simon Clist, Cabinet Member for Housing and Property Services said:
“While this may initially seem a strange time to undertake this kind of work, our community should be assured this project has been planned for a long time and it is very much needed to ensure the car park can continue to be used long into the future. The contractors will be adhering to all social distancing rules and have measures in place to ensure the work is carried out safely. I am pleased that our Council is showing its commitment to improving the infrastructure and actively seeking to rejuvenate our town centres and wider communities.”
The building work will cost in the region of £800K and is necessary for both insurance purposes, as well as ensuring the car park remains safe and well used for many years to come.
During preparation works, levels 9, 10 and 11 will be closed from Friday, 24 Apri. The programme is anticipated to last approximately six months.
