View of Culmstock BeaconMid Devon has a new website promoting all that is great about our beautiful region.

Mid Devon is a unique destination, attracting visitors who enjoy the countryside. Walking and cycling activities, food tourism, the central location from Devon’s tourism hotspots and the wealth of natural landscape all give Mid Devon its distinctive offer. With an interactive map promoting walking and cycling routes and their proximity to nearby attractions, eateries and accommodation, the new website allows visitors to create their own itinerary and plan how they want to spend their time here.

The website is managed by Visit Mid Devon; a partnership, between Mid Devon District Council (MDDC) and the Tourist Information Service (run by Tiverton Museum of Mid Devon Life).

Carrie Thomas, Tourist Information Service Manager, said:

"After speaking to our leisure and tourism businesses, it became clear that Mid Devon’s tourism offer needed a centralised place to shout out about everything we have to offer day and night visitors.
"MDDC’s economy team teamed up with us to secure funding from the Leader programme (European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development) to deliver a destination website (which is complemented by an annual printed guide)."

Cllr Graeme Barnell, Cabinet Member for Planning and Economic Regeneration, added:

“We have made it easy for people to be able to plan their trip to Mid Devon. All the relevant information a visitor needs is in one place, with interactive maps so they can see how close everything is to them. This is a great opportunity for Mid Devon businesses to engage with this project and help promote the area; an increase in footfall will support our town centres, tourism businesses and wider support services”.

Mid Devon residents are invited to share the website with friends and relatives. The website has a dedicated ‘What’s On’ section listing upcoming events plus lots of useful local information.

To celebrate the launch, Visit Mid Devon is running a FREE event for leisure and tourism businesses at 6:00pm, Wednesday, 26 February 2020, at the Exe Restaurant (Petroc College, Tiverton Campus). This is the first event of this nature specifically for Mid Devon businesses and offers an opportunity to link with other providers and help promote Mid Devon as a destination for visitors. The event features guest speaker Kate Doodson from Cosmic, who will talk through the key social media tips inspiring businesses to achieve success in the digital world. A networking session follows the event focussing on coordinating Mid Devon’s tourism offer with the aim of extending the holiday season in our region.
