Mid Devon District Council is looking to support ideas/projects that will help to revitalise its town centres this winter – get up to £5,000 in funding support.

Love Your Town Centre is a funding initiative to support ideas from local businesses, town councils or organisations with projects that will revive our high streets and help them to flourish for the future.

The fund offers £15,000 apportioned across Mid Devon’s three main towns (Crediton, Cullompton and Tiverton) for projects that create resilience and sustainability of our town centres, increasing footfall and dwell time.

Adrian Welsh, Strategic Manager for Growth, Economy and Delivery said:

“It has been a challenging 18 months for our businesses and we want to encourage projects that support our town centres in the build up to Christmas and into the New Year. We are looking for initiatives which will safely increase shopper confidence and footfall back to our town centres.”

Cllr Richard Chesterton, Cabinet Member for Planning and Economic Regeneration said:

“We are looking for ideas that help our communities re-engage with our town centres which have a lasting effect. We launched this fund last year and as a result we have funded a variety of projects across the three main towns. Previous projects supported by the fund are the Walronds Art Week in Cullompton, Crediton Carving – a project to bring people into the town square to learn a new skill and Tiverton’s bunting has made the town look vibrant and attractive to visitors this summer.”

The Love your Town Centre Fund opened for applications on Monday 13 September 2021 and closes at 12noon on Monday 4 October 2021. Applications will go to a Funding Panel for assessment with funding decisions announced by 22 October 2021.

Town Centre groups are encouraged to consider projects that they could put forward for funding. The projects must be delivered within 12 months of the funding decision. Funding cannot be used for projects already delivered or initiated unless it is for a separate phase of a wider project. Applications must be for projects delivered within designated Mid Devon town centres or within Mid Devon town boundaries with a demonstrable direct positive effect on the town centre.

The full criteria and application process guidance is available to view on the Council’s website.
