Market Walk improvements completed this Spring
The first phase of improvement work has been completed on time and on budget.
Work began on the make-over of the Market Walk area earlier this year and the final touches have now been added. Phase one saw the western side, closest to Market Place Car Park enriched with feature paving, trees and improved infrastructure which enabled the provision of a water fountain. Additionally, the existing drainage channel was removed and replaced.
Market Walk, which is owned by Mid Devon District Council, is seen as a key element of the town’s success and officers are working hard to ensure the area remains an attractive prospect for businesses to locate.
Andy Busby, Group Manager for Corporate Property and Commercial Assets at Mid Devon District Council said:
“Tiverton and Mid Devon are not immune to the decline in the retail sector that is evident nationally. However, we are determined to be proactive in our work to make our town centres attractive places for businesses and their customers. We are driving economic growth through our regeneration projects and this work is just a small part of our aspirations for the town.”
A larger scale regeneration project to transform the existing entrance to Tiverton Pannier Market from Fore Street has been granted planning permission as part of the first major phase of the Tiverton Regeneration Project. It is anticipated work will start on this scheme late Summer/Autumn 2019.
