Mid Devon District Council is launching a new Call for Sites, from 6 February - 14 March 2025.

Whilst changes are underway with the wider planning system, Mid Devon wishes to refresh its understanding of land availability across the district since the previous call for sites was undertaken in early 2021. This will help the Council understand the most recent information on available sites across Mid Devon and help inform the development of its Local Plan. The development potential of sites put forward during the Call will be assessed by local authority officers and a panel of representatives from a range of industries. Those that submitted sites during the 2021 process have been contacted directly.

The conclusions will be published in a ‘Housing and Economic Land Availability Assessment’ (HELAA). The HELAA will form part of the evidence base for a new Local Plan for Mid Devon.

Councillor Steve Keable, Cabinet Member for Planning and Economic Regeneration said:

“We’re providing an opportunity for individuals and organisations to suggest sites that they think have the potential to be developed for a range of uses including housing and economic development, renewable energy and habitat creation. We’re particularly interested in hearing about small and medium sized sites as these have wider benefits such as supporting small and medium enterprises, providing opportunities for self and custom build as well as community led schemes.”

If you wish to submit details of a site(s) for assessment in the HELAA, please complete our online form: www.middevon.gov.uk/HELAA-CallForSites

For further information please contact the Forward Planning team on 01884 255 255 or email planningconsultations@middevon.gov.uk.

Please note that submitting a site for assessment in the HELAA is not a planning application. If a site is found to have development potential in the HELAA, this will not amount to planning permission for development. Neither will this indicate that planning permission will be granted, or that the site will be allocated for development in the new Local Plan for Mid Devon.
