The Mid Devon Local Plan Review has been adopted at an extraordinary meeting of the Full Council held on 29^th July 2020 and follows an examination in public by a Planning Inspector, which took into account the many representations received from the public during stages of public consultation.

Councillors voted unanimously in favour of formally adopting the new Local Plan for the district, including main modifications recommended by the Planning Inspector, and a further minor modification to move the settlement limit at Sampford Peverell to show an area proposed for green infrastructure in the countryside.

The Local Plan to 2033, sets out where the development, including new homes, shops, schools, employment and infrastructure can take place and which parts of Mid Devon will be protected.

Councillor Graeme Barnell, Cabinet Member for Planning and Economic Regeneration said:

“The adoption of the Local Plan Review has been a long time coming and the Council’s decision confirms our commitment towards achieving the sustainable and well-planned provision of new homes, jobs, community facilities and infrastructure in Mid Devon, to meet local needs. Our focus will now be on delivering the promises made in the new Plan and giving further thought to how our ambitions for achieving zero-carbon development and sustainable and prosperous communities can be continued through future plans for the district.”
