The promotion, aimed at encouraging local families to get more active during the summer months, provided families the opportunity to enjoy six weeks of access to leisure facilities across the district for just £50.

The promotion ran from 27 July to 7 September, offering new members access to a range of activities including newly introduced classes such as "Learn to Play Pickleball", family fitness sessions, and junior fitness classes. In addition to the activities, families were also eligible for a 10% discount at Splash Café and Dive In Café.

In total, 145 families took advantage of the offer, surpassing initial expectations. The membership campaign attracted 577 individuals, including juniors and adults, underscoring its success in reaching families within the community and beyond.

Mid Devon Leisure was keen to make fitness more accessible to low-income families who may not be able to holiday during the school break.

Customer feedback was overwhelmingly positive. Participants praised the quality of the facilities, the helpfulness of the staff, and the variety of activities on offer. One member shared:

“It was a brilliant deal and we have all enjoyed our summer thanks. My husband is now looking to take out a full gym membership.”

Plans are already underway for enhancing next summer's programme, and the introduction of a new leisure management system will support more effective reporting and customer engagement.

Councillor Josh Wright, Cabinet Member for Service Delivery and Continuous Improvement, said:

"Making our leisure services accessible to all families, especially during the cost-of-living challenges, is a key priority for us. We will continue to look at ways to offer value for money while ensuring that everyone in Mid Devon has the opportunity to stay active and healthy."
