The overall results for Mid Devon’s District Council Election 2019 were declared at 4.30pm today.

The Conservatives now hold 18 seats, Liberal Democrats 12, Independents 10 and the Green Party two.

Following the result current leader of the Council, Clive Eginton, said:

“Today the electorate has spoken. While the Conservatives retain the most seats there is no overall control for Mid Devon. Moving forward we must now do what is best for the people of Mid Devon and I now hope we can work together for the benefit of the entire electorate. This has been a very long process and I would like to thank all the staff here today and those who worked through the night to ensure this democratic process can happen.”

Returning Officer at Mid Devon District Council, Jill May, said:

“Holding elections for district, town and parishes simultaneously is a huge task but we have a great team here at Mid Devon and together they ensure the process runs smoothly. I would like to say thank you to everyone involved.”

While the results for the district election have now been declared staff are now undertaking counts for the town and parish councils of Mid Devon. Results for these are expected later this evening.
