Residents are one-step closer to moving in as the award-winning modular homes progress to the final stage of development.

Built in partnership with innovative, modular house builder Zed Pods Ltd, the zero carbon homes are being installed on a council-owned site on the St Andrew’s estate in Cullompton.

The site, previously occupied by garages and car parking, will provide 3 one-bed and 3 two-bed homes, each with their own car parking spaces. The homes will be completed with triple glazing and solar panels, have their own private communal green space as well as separate storage for residents’ bins and bicycles.

The modular nature of Zed Pods means the onsite construction time is minimal and the houses are delivered complete, resulting in little disruption to neighbouring properties and allowing the new residents to move in immediately.

Councillor Simon Clist, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Housing and Property Services, said:

“I’m pleased that we are delivering these homes for local people. One of our commitments within our housing strategy is to provide affordable, accessible and energy efficient homes, this development ticks of the boxes.
“A need was identified for social housing in Cullompton, and these homes are at the heart of the community, marking the start of a dynamic social housing programme.”

The development is set to be zero operational carbon, making this one of the first social housing projects of this type within the district.

Supporting platforms are set to be installed in the first week of October, building the foundations for an additional 8 Zed Pods homes and 37 parking spaces in Shapland Place, Tiverton. The proposals include a mixture of housing types, including 4 one-bed, 3 two-bed and 1 three-bed homes, only a few 100 metres from the River Exe and town centre.

The Council has submitted several applications for further modular housing developments within the district, with plans for homes in Willand, Sandford, and more.
