Refuse loader carrying black sacksThe council's Street Scene team are holding recruitment open days on the 3rd and 9th of September 2019 at their depot at Unit 3 Carlu Close, Hitchcock’s Business Park, Willand, between 8am and 3pm.

Prospective applicants will be able to learn more about the roles, meet some of the team and potentially walk away with a job offer on the same day.

Hours of work are 37 hours per week on a task-and-finish basis, which would generally be worked between 6am and 5pm. A degree of flexibility will be required to cover eight Saturdays following bank holidays per year.

What you'll be doing

You will play a key role in maintaining a high standard of cleanliness within the Mid Devon District area. You’ll be collecting waste safely around the required collection route, acting as part of a team.

You’ll ensure that all recycling boxes and bins on your round are emptied, and load the materials onto the vehicle whilst responding politely to approaches from members of the public. You’ll also be required to report any accidents or incidents to your team leader.

Who we're looking for

To be successful in this role you will have:

Candidates must be in good health and previous experience of working in a waste environment is an advantage, although not essential.

Candidates should also have good organisational and communication skills. They must be literate and numerate and be capable of working on their own initiative.

A satisfactory basic disclosure check and three years complete employment history will be requested in the event of you being offered the position.
