Applying for a Mid Devon Home
All Mid Devon Homes (MDH) are let through Devon Home Choice, which is used across Devon to assess housing need. Anyone wanting to apply for a MDH property will need to apply to Devon Home Choice before being considered for social or affordable housing.
Devon Home Choice is designed to provide housing applicants with choice and an ability to move within Devon. However, some areas are more popular than others and therefore the policy allows local authorities to monitor lettings. Depending upon the outcome of the monitoring exercise, available homes in a particular area may be labelled to show that preference will be given to applicants with a local connection to that particular area. In Mid Devon, the number of people moving into the area is often higher than the number of those moving out and therefore many of the MDH homes advertised will state that the applicant must have a local connection to Mid Devon, and this may include accessible properties. There are a few exceptions to the local connection criteria and these are detailed in the Devon Home Choice Policy.
Adapted homes are offered to applicants with a particular accessibility need which has been agreed at the time of application, however the local connection criteria may still apply, as set out above. Therefore it is important for you to have realistic expectations, and therefore it should be noted that, if you wish to apply for an adapted home and do not have a local connection, your bid may not be successful. Applicants with an accessibility need can only bid on properties which have have been built, or adapted, to meet this need. Unfortunately, MDH cannot adapt available homes to make them suitable for particular applicants who are not yet MDH Tenants.
