Support for you and your tenants - Fuel Poverty Awareness Day 27th November 2020

What is Fuel Poverty?

We should all be able to stay warm at home. However rising energy costs, low incomes and energy-inefficient homes are restricting people’s options, leaving them in impossible situations like having to choose to heat their home, feed their children or pay their rent.

How does this impact me as a landlord?

Your tenants may well be finding times tough, this year especially.

We want to help you to help them stay in their homes, make sure those homes are healthy and also ensure that your property does not become affected by cold and damp, and you keep receiving your rent.

Free impartial telephone advice is available to help with reducing energy bills which may help tenants keep on top of their rent. Households frequently save over £750 as a result of our support.

What help is available for me and my tenants?

ECOE

Exeter Community Energy provides support including energy saving tips, information about the priority services register, help with bills, switching and discounts, and grants for insulation and heating. Referrals can also be made for benefit checks, debt advice, social tariffs with SW Water and fire safety checks.

  • Call your local Home Energy Advisor or the office 0800 772 3617
  • Email your local Home Energy Advisor or healthyhomes@ecoe.org.uk
  • Complete the referral form
  • Tell them about our drop-in clinic dates and times, ideal for those who don’t want a home visit or to book one for those that do. (Clinics will be restarting in the autumn)

LEAP is a free service that is helping people keep warm and reduce their energy bills without costing them any money.

Home visits can also be booked directly with LEAP, either by using the online form, or by calling them on 0800 060 7567. Calling them works well if you are with the client, so that the details can be taken and a date chosen right away.

NEA

National Energy Action provides a Warm and Safe Homes service. WASH Advice Service is a free support service providing advice to householders in England and Wales on their energy bills and keeping warm and safe in their home. We can also help with benefits advice and income maximisation.
