Civil penalties

In April 2017, new regulations were introduced under the Housing and Planning Act 2016 allowing councils to issue a civil penalty as an alternative to prosecution, if a landlord fails to comply with a housing notice to improve his/her property. It's the responsibility of private sector landlords to provide good quality, rented accommodation for their tenants.

Note: We've now implemented this change and if we have reason to serve a notice and you don’t comply, you could face a penalty of up £30,000!
