Devon County Council provides advice on archaeological issues for the District Council, developers and members of the public. These comments feed into the planning process, Conservation Area appraisals, public improvement schemes etc. and promote the importance of our below ground heritage.

Some archaeological sites are Scheduled Monuments – sites that are of significant archaeological importance and which are protected in legislation. In Mid Devon there are 49 scheduled monuments, including burial mounds, mottes, castles and bridges.
