The Register of Parks and Gardens is compiled by English Heritage and identifies special designed landscapes of particular historic importance. The emphasis of the Register is on gardens, grounds and other planned open spaces, such as town squares. The majority of sites registered are, or started life as, the grounds of private houses, but public parks and cemeteries form important categories also. All are skilfully planned surroundings reflecting the landscaping fashions of their day.

In Mid Devon we have 3 entries on the Register of Parks and Gardens. These are:

Shobrooke Park, Shobrooke, nr. Crediton

Bridwell Park, Uffculme

Knightshayes, Tiverton

There is also a Devon Local Register of locally important historic parks and gardens (with no statutory protection) and this contains 13 other parks in the Mid Devon area.
