Mid Devon District Council has recently issued two Fixed Penalty Notices in relation to fly tipping incidents within Mid Devon.

On two separate occasions the Council’s Street Scene team was notified of the illegal dumping of household waste which had occurred in Market Place, Tiverton and Post Cross Business Park, Kentisbeare. A skip hired by a local business in Kentisbeare was used as a place to fly tip half a van load of rubbish including a barbeque, beer cans and general waste. At Market Place, Tiverton a private wheelie bin was taken to a nearby property, filled up with general household waste and then returned to its original location.

With help from a member of the public, and tracing vehicle registrations, the people responsible were identified. Fixed Penalty notices were issued to both offenders who have been ordered to pay fines of £400.

Cllr Colin Slade, Cabinet Member for the Environment and Climate said:

“This is a good result for the Council and we hope that this will deter others who may be tempted to dump their rubbish. Fly-tipping is unacceptable, and we will do everything we can to catch anyone who fly-tips in Mid Devon. Fly-tipping of any material is a criminal offence and we ask anyone who witnesses fly-tipping to get in touch.”
