Mid Devon’s planners are asking for feedback on new guidance for delivering choice and high quality, affordable homes to meet the needs of all local residents.

The Meeting Housing Needs Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) that Mid Devon District Council is consulting on has been revised to provide a broader scope. It aims to be more inclusive of the needs of Gypsies and Travellers, Travelling Showpeople, people with disabilities, and an ageing population.

The revised version offers more choice in how high quality, affordable new homes can be provided, such as through community-led development, custom and self-build homes, and modern methods of construction. This supports the Council’s five-year housing strategy and provides guidance on how policies within the current Local Plan can be taken forward.

Councillor Steve Keable, Cabinet Member for Planning and Economic Regeneration, said:

“It’s important that we support a wide range of approaches to deliver decent, affordable homes that are fit for purpose for all of our residents’ needs. By doing so, we can help local people to remain living in their communities – and for longer.”
