While a small number of town centre essential shops remained open throughout the 3rd lockdown, it will be the first time this year that non-essential shops can open since lockdown began in January.

Jenny Clifford – Head of Planning, Economy and Regeneration said:

“For Mid Devon residents, our town centres are the heart of the community and have been greatly missed. We look forward to welcoming back all our shops from clothing stores to services such as hair & beauty, as well as outdoor hospitality and attractions”

The Government announced non-essential shops could reopen for part 2 of their roadmap for easing restrictions, with indoor hospitality, entertainment and accommodation to follow no earlier than 17th May 2021.

Adrian Welsh – Strategic Manager, Growth, Economy and Delivery said:

“Tiverton, Crediton, Cullompton and Bampton businesses can’t wait to re-open and welcome back their customers. Please show your support by visiting and abiding to the safety measures the Town and District council’s and individual shops have put in place.”
“When coming into town, please remember to maintain social distancing, follow the one way systems (where they apply), to wear a mask (if you’re not exempt), use the fixed hand sanitiser stations in shop entrances and take note of any outdoor queueing systems to limit numbers inside some shops at any one time. Shoppers are reminded to stay alert and follow the guidance in the town centres please.”
